A 10-year-old boy who was named one of the country's top youngsters for hiking up Snowdon in Wales is setting off on a new adventure.

Bobby Scarlett was put forward for the Rotary Club's Young Citizen of the Year for Great Britain and Ireland in 2021 for his "fantastic achievement" of reaching the summit of the Welsh peak in September 2020.

Bobby, who lives in Luntley, near Leominster, is planning to take on a new challenge with the help of his mum, and walking partner, Natassja Guinsberg.

They are taking part in the Welsh three peaks challenge, to raise money for the Velindre NHS Trust in Cardiff, who personally looked after his grandfather.

The hike takes in Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen-y-fan, in a dawn to dusk challenge on March 19.

Bobby can often be found with his mum doing practice hikes around the Herefordshire hills, with Hergest Ridge, near Kington, being a popular training ground for the pair.

He said: "I've loved hiking up mountains ever since my first experience of it on Pen-y-fan when I was 7. I get a great feeling of achievement from completing these walks."

Bobby and his mum have a lot more challenges in the pipeline and plan on heading to Italy later in the year to walk the cliffs of the Amalfi coast on the so-called "Path of the Gods" amongst others.

Ms Guinsberg said: "He is an absolute inspiration. When everyone else is slowing down, he pushes and inspires them to go further and quicker with his effort and enthusiasm".

"He is amazing, and I couldn't be prouder of him."
