PEOPLE at bus stops smoking cannabis and shining torches into drivers' eyes are ruining quiet village life, a Herefordshire councillor has said.

Coun Helen Batchelor, chair of Bodenham Parish Council said a lot of messages had been shared locally about antisocial behaviour in the village, south of Leominster.

She said the problems were mainly happening at bus stops near the England's Gate pub and at the end of Chapel Lane, as well as in the alleyway at the end of the village green.

Information had been passed to police, and she said officers seemed "particularly interested in the apparent use of cannabis, highlighted by clearly identifiable litter left by the users".

Coun Batchelor said police were also looking into reports of someone shining a strong torch into the eyes of oncoming drivers.

She said that was "causing more than a nuisance, making it dangerous for all around".

"We want to reassure our residents that as a parish council we take seriously reports of behaviour that upsets those who enjoy a quiet life in our village, and that we won’t tolerate actions that are unwelcome, antisocial or unlawful," she said.

"Conversations with the police are ongoing, as is their very proactive response.

"If anyone wishes to add to the complaints we mention, especially with any specific information they are welcome to email the parish council or contact our local policing team, whose details are listed on our website."

She reminded locals that information can also be passed anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
