FIREFIGHTERS had a busy weekend in Herefordshire with a number of calls, including to rescue a person from height in Hereford.

A spokesperson for Ewyas Harold Fire Station said they were called to Hereford in the early hours of this morning.

They were joined by two crews from Hereford and aerial ladder and rope rescue crews from Droitwich and Malvern fire stations to rescue a person from a height in the city at 4.24am.

The person was safely brought down, the spokesperson confirmed.

The call followed previous callouts to Llangua at 1.53am on Saturday, where they found an alarm had been set off by steam from a shower, and to Wormbridge, where they joined colleagues from Hereford to battle a chimney fire at 7.34pm.

The spokesperson said the fire was put out using hose reel and chimney gear and the property vented. The residents were allowed to return to the property around 21:30.

A re-inspection was carried out on Sunday morning and a new seat of fire was located in the roof space of the property. A fire crew from Hereford were re-mobilised to assist and used a hose reel to extinguish the fire with three crew in the loft area.

A section of the roof had to be removed and a number of affected timbers were also cut out and removed. Crews left the incident around 5.30am and a further check later that day found all was clear.
