THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice across parts of Herefordshire, with the threat of sleet and snow.

The warning, which covers most of Herefordshire and Wales, including Hereford, Kington, Ross-on-Wye and Hay-on-Wye, comes into force at midnight.

It will be in force until 10am on Wednesday with “icy stretches likely to develop”.

An area of rain, sleet and snow is expected to move south across much of Wales and parts of western England on Thursday morning, forecasters said.

They warned about the potential for snow in the Welsh Marches, the stretch between England and Wales.

OTHER NEWS:

With temperatures expected to fall ahead of the rain, sleet and snow arriving, some icy stretches are likely to form on frozen ground.

“While some snow will fall, this will be mainly on higher ground, although perhaps to lower levels for a time in the Welsh Marches and parts of the West Country,” they said.

“Only small amounts are expected with perhaps 1-2 cm of slushy accumulations in places.”

The yellow weather warning means the Met Office is warning of some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

It said there would probably be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, and some roads and railways may be affected with longer journey times.

OTHER NEWS:

In Hereford, the forecast suggests it will be a clear night with lows of 2C, with temperatures dropping below freezing in more rural areas of the county.

Some wintry showers are expected over the border throughout the day on Wednesday, the forecast shows.
