EVENTS due to take place in Herefordshire have been cancelled as Storm Arwen sweeps in.

Hereford's street market was due to take place today (Saturday, November 26), as it does every Saturday. 

But due to concerns over severe weather associated with the arrival of Storm Arwen, a decision has been taken to cancel the street market.

The Christmas lights switch-on in Malvern has been temporarily cancelled due to ‘severe weather conditions’ from Storm Arwen.

The switch-on was due to take place today (November 27).

At a meeting of Malvern Town Council's planning committee on November 24, town clerk Linda Blake said all options were being considered ahead of this weekend.

She said: "The activities are all set, but unfortunately there is not great weather forecast with gale force winds.

"If the weather is that severe, we could have to cancel."

But the council have now made the decision to cancel the event.

It is not yet clear when a new date will be announced for the switch-on.

Croft Castle closed its gates today (Saturday, November 27) for safety reasons due to severe weather conditions predicted as a result of Storm Arwen.

A post on NT Croft Castle's Twitter read: "We hope to reopen on Sunday, November 28, but do check our website and social media for further updates before you travel."

Ludlow Town Council have announed Ludlow's Medieval Christmas Fayre 2021 is cancelled after damage caused to the site by Storm Arwen.

A post on the council's Facebook page read: "There has been too much damage on site for us to be able to make the event safe for visitors, exhibitors, performers and staff.

"We need today to manage the situation here at the Castle and to support our exhibitors who have been affected by the storm damage."

On Monday (November 29) they will email all ticket holders with an update.

Ludlow Christmas lights switch on was due to take place today (November 27) in partnership with Sunshine Radio.

Ludlow Town Council and Sunshine Radio have taken the decision to cancel the switch on in the square due to safety concerns regarding Storm Arwen.

Although, Ludlow's town market was cancelled today (November 27) after the wind had ripped two canopies off the stalls. 

A tree surgeon was called in to make a tree safe in Castle Gardens.

The market canopy will be fixed and the market is open tomorrow as normal (November 28).
