A CORONER said it was "something of a mystery" why a motorcycle crashed into an oncoming car on a Herefordshire road killing the rider.

Karen Evans was riding her Honda motorcycle on the B4203 near Bromyard Downs when the crash happened on May 2.

OTHER NEWS:

An inquest heard that Mrs Evans had crossed into the opposing carriageway on a left hand bend before crashing into a Land Rover Defender travelling in the other direction.

Mrs Evans, from Birmingham, died at the scene with multiple injuries.

Herefordshire assistant coroner Roland Wooderson recorded a conclusion of death by road traffic collision.

"The motorcycle came onto the wrong side of the road and collided with a Land Rover," concluded Mr Wooderson.

"Why that happened is something of a mystery."

Dashcam footage of the incident showed Mrs Evans approaching the bend at a speed of 37mph - under the 60mph speed limit.

Both Mrs Evans motorcycle and the oncoming Land Rover, whose driver had taken evasive action to avoid the crash, were checked and had no defects.

Mr Wooderson said that the best explanation he had was from crash investigator Claire Byrne who suggested that understeer from the motorcycle could have been a significant factor.
