WALES has passed another grim milestone, passing 6,000 deaths due to coronavirus.

There have been another 15 deaths due to covid in Wales, over the last 24 hour reporting period.

And, according to Public Health Wales, one of these deaths occurred within the Aneurin Bevan Health Board area – which covers Newport and Gwent.

It takes the death toll in Gwent to 1,025, and brings the overall total nationwide above the 6,000 mark, currently standing at 6,005.

Today (Friday, September 15), another 3,130 new cases of the virus have been reported across Wales.

Of these, 196 were in Caerphilly, where more new cases were found compared with any other part of Gwent.

It was followed by Newport, where 175 new cases were reported.

Elsewhere, Torfaen saw 150, Monmouthshire 104, and Blaenau Gwent 85.

However, in terms of the number of cases per percentage of the population, covid is more prevalent in Torfaen than any other part of Wales.

Here, there are 159.6 cases per 100,000 persons.

Nationwide, Cardiff saw the highest number of new cases reported, with 376.

This was followed by the Rhondda on 272, and Swansea on 251.

Ceredigion had the lowest number of new cases reported, with just 25.

At this time, 2,405,335 people have had their first vaccine, while 2,233,773 have had their second dose.
