A CRASH driver flipped his BMW after drinking cans of lager.

Marius Cuciuc admitted drink-driving when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

Police had been called to a crash involving a black BMW, which had rolled onto its roof, in Holme Lacy Road, Hereford, on September 18.

Cuciuc was asked to take a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result, and admitted drinking four cans of lager before crashing.

An evidential breath test in custody revealed he had 43 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

George Cousins, for Cuciuc, said the 36-year-old had provided a low reading when he was breath tested.

"He told police the crash was due to a momentary lapse where he went on a verge which had a bank and flipped the car. No other cars were involved.

"This will have an effect on his job as he travels from home to work by car."

Cuciuc, of Aylton, Ledbury, was disqualified from driving for 14 months and fined £308. He must also pay costs of £135 and a £34 victim surcharge.
