A HEREFORD school has recieved a ‘good’ rating by Ofsted in their most recent full inspection.

The Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School are celebrating after being bumped from ‘require improvement’ to ‘good’ in all four areas of the new Ofsted framework.

As well as rated ‘good’ for overall effectiveness following the recent full inspection carried out in July.

Ofsted judges the quality of education pupils are receiving in all state schools.

They inspect then rate them from 'outstanding' to 'inadequate'.

Inspectors said Bishops school has a culture of continuous improvement. and senior leaders and governors are passionate about giving pupils the best education and care possible.

“This commitment permeates throughout the school”.

Ofsted also rewarded the school on their inclusivity.

“The curriculum helps pupils to understand how to be responsible and respectful citizens.

"For example, in history, pupils learn about and develop an understanding of Black histories, racism and slavery.”

Ofsted have put in place a new framework for inspections, which currently few schools have been inspected under.

Bishops school Headteacher Mr Henton was pleased with the positive and complimentary report under this new framework, he said, "I am so proud of our school, I would like to thank our staff and students for their hard work and determination in achieving this success.

“Importantly, it is a great recognition of our high standards and excellence in providing the highest quality of education for our students”.

In July, the school received an Ofsted monitoring visit to assess their progress since the last full inspection in May 2019.

Ofsted stated in their current report how the school can improve, and how they have overcome obstacles.

“Over the last 18 months, many members of the governing body left, which had the potential to affect the governing body’s checks on the school’s performance.

“The remaining governors have successfully recruited new members to the board.

“They have used a skills audit effectively to show where additional development for members is needed. The governing body needs to make sure that new members fully understand their roles and responsibilities.

“In addition, all members of the governing body should further develop the necessary skills and knowledge they need to enable them to hold leaders closely to account for their actions.”

The monitoring visit was converted into a full inspection the following week to assess our Ofsted judgement.

The inspection recognised the rapid improvement which has been achieved at Bishop’s, said Mr Henton.

He is also appreciative of parents who provided positive feedback about the school during the inspection.

“Although our achievements have been recognised in the inspection report, the hard work will continue as we strive to push ourselves to be an Outstanding centre of learning when we are next inspected,” he said.

Bishops will be holding an open evening on Tuesday October 19 and open mornings as advertised on the school website.
