A GROUP of people have been seen trying to steal fuel from a car parked near Hereford.

West Mercia Police issued a warning to the public after the attempted theft in Credenhill, near the Stirling Lines SAS camp.

The force said three or four people were seen on CCTV between 1am and 2am on Monday, October 4 attempting to steal the fuel from a car parked at the junction of Station Road and Waterside, behind the camp which is home to the 22 Special Air Service Regiment.

PC Josh Kitchen, who gave tips on how to avoid being a victim of crime, said he wanted to hear from anyone who had any information.

Information can be passed to West Mercia Police via its website, or by calling 101, and giving incident reference 0029i of October 4.

"There are some simple but effective things you can do to help protect your property," he said.

"Where possible, remove all valuable items from your vehicle before leaving it unattended, ensure you use a locking fuel filler cap and consider parking your car in a well lit area.

"We are also encouraging the community to call us on 101 if they see anyone acting suspiciously around a vehicle."

He added: "If you ever feel at risk, or a crime is in progress, please always dial 999.

"Thank you for your help. It is only by the police and the public working together that we can prevent and detect crime."
