FURTHER details have been released about Hereford Pride, set to take place at venues across the city on Saturday.

Drag queen Boo La Croux, otherwise known as Dean Goodwin-Evans, has been one of the driving forces behind the event for the county's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) community.

Mr Goodwin-Evans, who lives with husband Paul in Eardisley, near Kington, said he benefited from LGBTQ+ support when he was made homeless when he came out as gay as the age of 16.

He wanted to make sure there was the same level of support in Herefordshire, having moved to the county in 2019 and worked as a hairdresser.

He told Herefordshire high sheriff Jo Hilditch's Bench Talk podcast that he was the only drag queen in the county who was "out there", and felt the county could do more for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community.

More details have now been released about Saturday's events, which start at 11am and continue until late.

"It's going to be fabulous, unmissable and unforgettable – Hereford's never seen anything like it and you could be part of it," Hereford Pride said on Facebook.

Starting at 11am at The Courtyard in Edgar Street, there will be information, craft stalls and workshops to get involved with.

At midday Hereford's Mayor Paul Stevens will formally open Hereford Pride, together with host and current Miss Drag UK Boo La Croux.

"There will be bands, acts, a magician, poetry, panel-discussion on sexuality and faith, LGBT+ community and trans parenting", the post said.

"Acoustic acts will also be playing in the bar. Plus an open poetry session if that's your thing."

"At 5pm, we have a very special choir and then switch to The Alley Cats who will provide us with a party set until around 6.30pm.

"That's not all for The Courtyard as in the evening, we then have an exciting film double bill including Hedwig, with more acts and a Q&A."

There will also be a post-Pride party at Babar Cafe in Union Street from 7pm until late with "LGBTQ+ disco hits".
