A WORLD War Two RAF veteran has celebrated his 100th birthday with a party in Herefordshire.

Ronald Sell celebrated his 100th birthday on August 18 with family and staff at Credenhill Court Rest Home, near Hereford.

Ron volunteered for the RAF in 1939 and served in North Africa, the Balkans, Greece and Iceland.

He was wounded in action in North Africa while attached to the Long-Range Desert Assault Group.

After the war he stayed in the RAF and was a member of the Operation Aries team who tracked and located the Magnetic North Pole.

While posted at RAF Madley he met his wife-to-be, Margaret Young.

The couple went on to have two sons, Lionel and Roger, and settled in Hereford, where Ron worked for the post office, in retail and for local government.
