The river Lugg at Mordiford is a dirty grey colour.

Its bed is covered with silt and brown algae.

For the last two years pollution has prevented the growth of water weed (the Wye here is almost as bad).

RELATED NEWS:

This water weed is the staple diet of swans.

Since they can find no sustenance in the rivers they are having to graze the river meadows, often wandering close to the road searching for food.

Swans are very good at defending themselves when on the water.

However, on land they are very vulnerable to dog attacks.

Please, dog owners, keep your dogs well away from swans.

And please, Environment Agency, clean up our toxic rivers.
