A ROAD near Hereford which reopened in March after a 13-month closure is set to shut again.

Herefordshire Council said the B4224 Fownhope road would be closed over a five-day period in August for roadworks.

The road, from the Holme Lacy bridge towards Fownhope was closed in February 2020 after storm damage and reopened in March 2021.

But five months after reopening, it will be shut again for resurfacing works, the council's contractor Balfour Beatty Living Places said.

The schedule, sent to local residents, said the road would be closed between Scotch Firs and Lower House Gardens from Monday, August 23 to Wednesday, August 25 between 9am and 5pm.

It would also be closed between Mordiford to Fownhope at Fiddlers Green from Tuesday, August 24 to Friday, August 27 between 9am and 5pm.

Access to businesses and homes will be maintained as much as possible, Balfour Beatty said.

The fully signed diversion route is via the C1295 Woolhope and C1297 Mordiford.

It added: "We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

"At Balfour Beatty we work in partnership with Herefordshire Council to minimise the impact of our work and try to keep all disruption to a minimum – we appreciate your patience."

Karen Howells, who lives nearby, said she was exasperated at the closure and warned people living in Woolhope and Broadmoor so "look out" for "hundreds of cars and caravans trying to get through the narrow lanes again".
