FIRE crews from Herefordshire and Shropshire have tackle a large fire in a rural field.

Tenbury fire station said it was among the crew sent to the fire between Cleobury Mortimer and Clows Top, in south Shropshire.

It said the "large fire" involved standing crop, but was "quickly brought under control" after the call came in at 2.02pm on Thursday (July 22).

Other crews in attendance included Leominster, Ludlow, Wyre Forest, Cleobury Mortimer and Bridgnorth.

The Land Rover from Wyre Forest and Shropshire's incident support unit used lances to damp down after the fire was brought under control.

A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Six fire appliances including the incident support unit and the water carrier were mobilised from Cleobury Mortimer and Ludlow.

"An operations officer was in attendance. Also at the scene of the incident were the police.

"Approximately 13 acres of standing crops alight. Four high pressure hose reel jets and beaters in use."
