The rest of July is set to be a scorcher, with a 30C heat wave heading its way to Britain – the perfect weather to head to the coast.

With schools breaking up for the summer, and some travel restrictions still in place, now is the perfect time for families to hop in their cars and head to the nearest coast for some sea and sun fun.

While landlocked Herefordshire is clearly not renowned for its coastal walks, the highest-rated in the UK have been revealed, and some are within a couple of hours of Hereford.

Featured in the list is the Gower Peninsular in South Wales, around two hours from Hereford, and Llandudno in North Wales, around two-and-a-half hours away by car or train.

SaveOnEnergy.com/uk decided to find out which coastal walks in the UK are the highest rated, based on their online reviews from TripAdvisor.

The company compiled a list of all coastal walks and created a weighted ranking out of five based on the number of reviews each walk received.

SaveOnEnergy.com/uk revealed that in first place, and therefore the highest rated coastal walk in the UK, is the Gower Peninsular, Swansea, with a score of 4.86 out of five.

The beauty spot was the first area in the UK to receive an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ classification, which is designed to help conserve the natural beauty of the area.

Not far behind, in second place, is St Brelade’s Bay, Jersey with a rating of 4.85/5. The beach received a top three spot in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards of 2019 - not surprising since the sun stays on the beach for most of the day!

Ranking third is Quiraing, in the Isle of Skye, with 4.84/5. Whilst not directly situated on the coast, this walk offers stunning views of the coastline in all directions.

4. Causeway Coastal Route - County Antrim, Northern Ireland: 4.80/5

5. Dunnottar Castle - Stonehaven, Scotland: 4.79/5

6. Perranporth Beach - Perranporth, Cornwall: 4.74/5

7. The White Cliffs of Dover - Dover, Kent: 4.64/5

Rounding off the top 10, and tied in eighth place, is Beachy Head, in Eastbourne, East Sussex, and Brownsea Island, Dorset. These locations both scored 4.63 out of five and share the same coastline in the south of England.

Ranking ninth is the Llandudno Promenade, North Wales, with a score of 4.61/5. Llandudno is famous for its 19th century pier, and having the cliffs of Great Orme just to the north.

Finally, SaveOnEnergy.com/uk can reveal that in 10th place is Culzean Castle and Country Park. The cliff-top castle offers stunning views of the coast and walks that go right up to the water's edge. Culzean Castle and Country Park scored 4.59 out of five, meaning it also tied with Dorset’s Jurassic Coast walk, the Lulworth Cove for 10th place.
