A POPULAR riverside walk in Herefordshire will fully reopen after Herefordshire Council agreed to repair damaged steps.

Ledbury Town Council said the riverside walk steps by the Little Marcle Road roundabout were scheduled for repair starting on Monday (July 19).

The spokesperson said the steps had been "out of action" for some time, believed to be up to 12 months, and the town council and ward councillors had been pushing Herefordshire Council and contractor Balfour Beatty Living Places to carry out the work.

County councillor Phillip Howells said: "As many of you know, these steps have been out of action for months and as the ward councillor, along with fellow ward councillor Liz Harvey, we have been regularly chasing up and having discussions with Balfour Beatty Living Places (BBLP) about when the repair will take place.

"To be fair they have always advised they know the concerns and that as soon as the money has been allocated the work will be done as quickly as possible.

"I know this has concerned many about the safely and lack of access, but it has not been for want of trying to get it fixed

"However, at long last the budget has been found and we are told the repairs will commence on Monday, July 19."
