A POPULAR Herefordshire country show has cancelled for the second year in a row as there is still significant uncertainty around coronavirus rules.

The organisers of Kington Show, which was due to be held on Saturday, September 11, said they had taken the difficult decision to cancel this year's show.

They said there were hopeful the Government's roadmap out of the coronavirus lockdown meant life would have returned to "normal" on June 21, but phase four was pushed back by a month.

The committee said that the delay, due to rising cases, meant there was even more uncertainty surrounding the rules which could be in place in September.

"There is still no clear indication of what measures large events will have to take to create a safe environment for all involved," the committee said.

"Given the current uncertainty, cancellation is the only option that will both safeguard the financial security of the show going forward and protect the health and safety of all involved.

"It’s a huge disappointment for all of us. Thank you for your continued support and fingers crossed for a great show next year which will be on Saturday, September 10."

In step four of the lockdown easing in England, the Government wants to remove all legal limits on social contact.

It said it hoped nightclubs would reopen, and the restriction on large events and gatherings would be eased.
