FLY-TIPPERS and thieves which are targeting an old doctors' surgery in Hereford are hopefully going to be put off by a new gate, as new owners look to secure the car park.

The car park at Moorfield House Surgery in Edgar Street is currently open and insecure, consultants working on a scheme to install railings and gates at the Grade II-listed building said.

The four-storey building was recently bought by Natasha Charlwood, but a design and access statement submitted with plans to Herefordshire council said fly-tipping had happened twice since the doctors' surgery closed.

"Historically, the site has also suffered from the removal and theft of lead flashing and roofing accessories, as the rear car park was well-screened and easily accessed from the highway along Portland Street, as it was insecure," it said.

The applicant therefore wants to install dwarf metal railings on top of existing boundary walls, as well as an automatic sliding gate.

Repairs and internal alteration works to the main building are being carried out under a separate application granted in 2020.

Comments on application 211960 can be made until Thursday, July 8, with a decision expected on Tuesday, August 10.
