A WARNING has been issued after police received reports of a dangerous bike in a Herefordshire village.

West Mercia Police said they had received several reports of a push bike with a petrol engine strapped to it riding over a playing field in Credenhill on Sunday (June 6).

Herefordshire's rural north safer neighbourhood team said a section 59 warning had been issued and if the rider is caught again, his bike will be seized and potentially crushed.

The police have wide ranging powers to deal with people who use their vehicles in an anti-social manner. Apart from prosecuting offenders for motoring offences, that could lead to being disqualified from driving.

Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 gives police the power to seize vehicles being used in an antisocial or careless manner and where your driving is likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public.

This includes in car parks and covers any such use of a motor vehicle off-road, such as common land, moorland, bridle paths, footpaths, tracks and fields.

The keeper of the vehicle will be liable for recovery/storage costs.
