MEMBERS of our We Grew Up In Hereford Facebook group have been reminiscing on nights out at St Mary’s in Burghill.
Home to mental health hospital St Mary’s, Burghill had a thriving social club and dancehall where nurses and locals alike could unwind.
“Great “do’s” in the big hall at St Mary’s and some great nights in the social club,” wrote Lesley Burns reminiscing.
“We always had a drink there before we went into town for nights out and we went there when we lived in the nurses home.”
But for Den Furnell, nights out in Burghill had a spooky side.
“Was a great night till you had to walk back in the dark and hear a sheep cough the other side of the hedge then sprint past the haunted old stables and the haunted mansion in the field,” he said.
