PUBLIC toilets in a Herefordshire town will be closed until further notice after "mindless" vandals ripped water pipes from the wall.

Kington Town Council clerk Liz Kelso said the recreation ground vandalism was "frustrating, mindless and stupid", with the damaged pipes causing a flood.

New tools had also recently been bought to use at the ground, run by a charity which the town council is a trustee of, but these were stolen when a shed was also broken into on Wednesday, June 2.

Ms Kelso also said it was frustrating as the charity had not been able to make much money from renting the ground out due to the coronavirus rules.

It means the toilets at the site in Park Avenue will be closed until further notice as the town council and other bodies work to fix the damage caused by the vandals.

"They're not the prettiest toilets in the world, but they're kept clean and well-stock, our staff don't need to come in and find that, they only work part-time.

"The recreation ground is a little jewel in Kington and I get nothing but praise from local people for it and the way it's kept.

"When something like this happens you just think 'for crying out loud'. Lots of kids use it, the cricket club uses it, kids playing football, out there with their bikes and on the play area, it's well used, particularly in this weather.

"Over the last 12 months so many people have told me how valuable they found that space."
