THE quick-thinking driver of a vehicle which went up in flames saved nearby buildings from being involved in the blaze, fire crews at the scene said.

Kington fire station praised the response of the driver after they were called to a loading shovel fire in nearby Eardisley.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said the vehicle was "well-alight" when crews from Kington, Eardisley and Leominster arrived at around 4.30pm on Wednesday, June 2.

"Crews used foam and lots of water to extinguish the flames and cool the machine.

"Swift-thinking by the operator saved buildings and made our life easier," Kington fire station said.
