THE map which shows which area in Herefordshire has seen the most coronavirus deaths has been updated.

Despite falling infection rates since January, more deaths were recorded in April, the latest Office for National Statistics data shows.

A total of 293 deaths are known to have happened across the county in all settings, and not just in hospital, up to April 30.

That was one less than in March, and significantly less than the 46 recorded in February.

A map designed by the Office for National Statistics allows users to see how many people in their local area have died with coronavirus as the main cause, with the data covering up to April 30.

OTHER NEWS:

And while the authority endeavour to be as specific as possible, there are certain instances where the data may be slightly skewed.

For example, to protect confidentiality, a small number of deaths have been reallocated between neighbouring areas.

Points on the map are placed at the centre of the local area they represent and do not show the actual location of deaths, and figures are for deaths registered rather than deaths occurring in each month.

Figures exclude death of non-residents and are based on August 2020 boundaries.

Figures are provisional, but include only deaths where Covid-19 was the underlying cause of death.

How many deaths has there been at hospitals in Herefordshire?

NHS England figures show 228 people had died in hospital at the Wye Valley NHS Trust, which runs Hereford County Hospital as of 4pm on Sunday (May 23).

The most recent death at the trust, which runs Hereford County Hospital, was on April 11.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.

How many people have tested positive for coronavirus in Herefordshire?

A total of 7,151 people have had Covid-19 in Herefordshire, the latest figures show.

It comes after Public Health England changed the way it reported the figures from Friday.

Revision to historical case data in England also led to the removal of 5,500 cases nationally over three days last week.

The number of positive cases reported in Herefordshire by 9am on Monday (May 24) was 26 higher than last Monday.

Cases that are identified through a positive lateral flow test – those which can deliver results within half an hour – are no longer being counted if the person then takes a PCR test, which is sent to a lab to be checked, and receives a negative result within three days.

These cases are now being removed daily.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
