A MAN was caught with class A and B drugs after going into "self-destruct" mode, a court has heard.

David Michael Aston-Brown admitted possessing cannabis and cocaine when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

Police had decided to stop a white Ford Fiesta, in which Brown was travelling as a passenger, in Hereford on June 23, prosecutor Shafquat Reaz said.

The car was pulled over in Sainsbury's car park, and was searched after police noted a smell of cannabis coming from it.

They found a tub of white powder, later confirmed to be cocaine, and a bag containing cannabis in the door pocket.

Aston-Brown, 28, admitted the drugs belonged to him.

Speaking on his own behalf, Aston-Brown said he had been in a bit of a downward spiral at the time and was in self-destruct mode.

"I was taking drugs and trying to ruin my life," he said.

"For the past couple of years I have split up with my ex and I have had a pretty tough ride of trying to keep up contact with my children, but things are better now."

Aston-Brown, who is of no fixed address, was fined a total of £200 for possessing the drugs. He must also pay costs of £100 and a £34 victim surcharge.
