TRIBUTES have been paid to a former footballer and popular member of the Wellington community.

Wellington Football Club paid their tribute following the "unimaginable loss" of Colin Bowcott at the age of 59.

"He fought his illness with a smile on his face, was always positive and showed immense dignity," said the club in a Facebook post.

"Colin was a Wellington boy through and through and gave the village and Wellington Football Club more than he took out.

"He was a player, a manager, a groundsman, a family man, a hard-working committee member, a friend to many and a lover of village life.

"He will leave a gap and we will miss him dearly."
