THE ambulance service has paid a loving tribute to their colleague Jeremy Daw, known to his friends as Jack, killed in a crash on the A49 yesterday.

Nathan Hudson, West Midlands Ambulance Service, emergency services operation delivery director, said: "Yesterday we lost a friend, a colleague and a family lost their loved one in a very tragic incident that happened in Hereford.

"Jeremy Daw – Jack – was a loving husband, a father and for us within the ambulance service he was not just a colleague but a dear friend as well.

"Jeremy worked as a paramedic and extended his retirement to ensure that he could come back and fight the Covid response that the NHS has put forward.

"Unfortunately, yesterday Jack, as he is known at the station to his close colleagues, passed away in a tragic incident.

"Nobody else was involved within the incident overall. It was an accident at this present moment in time.

"We are working with West Mercia Police to ensure that we can help them with the response to this incident.

"I would encourage anybody who did see the incident please come forward and contact West Mercia Police."

Mr Hudson added that the service had received some 'unbelievable' messages of condolence from across the country.

"Across the whole of the service everybody is mourning and also across the whole of the country really," he added.

"We've had some unbelievable messages from people particularly from other ambulance services and other emergency services."

Mr Daw was a keen and responsible metal detectorist.

He and his colleague, paramedic Martin Fulloway, of Leominster, found 518 Roman coins in the Kimbolton area in July 2013.

The coins were later put on display at the site where they were found.

Speaking some time after the discovery, Mr Daw said: "Speaking about the discovery Mr Daw said: “My brain said it is a hoard of Roman coins – my heart took a few seconds to catch up with my brain.

"We were really happy. Martin was running around in circles for a few minutes.

“What was really magical about it for Martin and I was that we had found something that was of great archaeological importance which added to the rich tapestry of the history of this land.

“We felt privileged by the fact that we could actually touch this history.”

From Steve & Sheena Bescoby

My message of sympathyYesterday we lost a very dear friend in a tragic freak accident. He was on his way to help someone else in difficulty. We will remember him as a happy person with an inquisitive mind and a very caring nature. He and his darling wife certainly lived life to the full, never wasting a moment. They worked hard to create memories for their children and grandchildren and we know they will all miss him terribly. He was someone well acquainted with risk and always took great care to minimise it, to lose him this way makes no sense at all. Our hearts and minds are with the family constantly and we will pledge to keep those memories alive. RIP, dear friend.
