A SON smashed the bonnet of his dad’s Ford car with a concrete pillar after he lost his temper during an emotional argument.

Hereford Magistrates Court heard how Christopher Robert Windmill, 30, had gone to his dad’s house in Hereford after months of not speaking and his feelings became “heated”, prosecuting solicitor Shafquat Reaz said on Wednesday (April 14).

The bonnet of the 2019 Ford Eco Sport was then dented when Windmill smashed it with a concrete pillar he had been carrying over his shoulder on March 3, 2021.

He said the damage to the bonnet and engine totalled £500, and Windmill had a previous conviction for criminal damage in 2015.

Defence solicitor Marilena Di Vitantonio said Windmill had “lost his temper” after an “emotional argument with his father” and struck the car, with the pair’s relationship having already “broken down”.

He was then arrested by police.

Windmill, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage and was handed a six-month conditional discharge by magistrates.

He must also pay £500 compensation, a £22 victim surcharge and £135 costs.
