I SYMPATHISE with the reader who has received a £100 parking fine at Queenswood. You published my letter when I had a similar experience last year. The CCTV recorded my arrival and departure times and Corporate Services claimed that I had overstayed my welcome.
Fortunately I had my parking ticket which proved that I had departed 15 minutes before my ticket expired. I did not return to Queenswood after that experience because I determined to avoid the shock and sinking feeling when I opened the letter from Corporate Services with bold black lettering: £100 fine; a charge completely out of proportion to my small income from pensions.

However, the government has recently announced that we may meet another person to walk and talk and my friend contacted me to meet her at Queenswood. You can imagine my trepidation. I arrived at the parking machine, ensured that I entered my number plate correctly (you will receive a fine if you don’t), photographed my car in the middle of a legal space with the parking ticket correctly displayed.
I also paid £4 for a whole day, even though we walked for less than two hours, in order to avoid the CCTV making another “mistake”!
I enjoyed the walk, but will not be returning to Queenswood any time soon.
