POLICE officers have issued another warning telling people to stay away from a deadly quarry near Ledbury.

West Mercia Police said a number of groups have been caught having barbecues and swimming at Gullet Quarry, with temperatures rising to more than 20C earlier this week.

Inspector Alex Warner said there was a "real danger of death" at the Quarry, which claimed the lives of two young men in 2013.

"We have had to deal with a number of groups BBQ’ing and swimming at the Gullet Quarry," Inspector Warner said.

"There is a real danger of death here. Working with Malvern Hills Trust to prosecute offenders under local bye laws."

Police have repeatedly warned the public about the dangers of Gullet Quarry, including in May 2020, when up to 50 people were moved on in a single day.

The notorious beauty spot, on the Herefordshire-Worcestershire border, claimed the lives of Justas Juzenas, aged 22, of Ross-on-Wye and Russell O’Neill, aged 17, of Worcester who both drowned in July 2013 within a week of each other.

There signs warning people not to enter the quarry and Malvern Hills Trust warned last year of a “triple death risk” at Gullet Quarry from drowning, falling rocks and coronavirus if people are not social distancing at the quarry.
