Developers want to build 10 bungalows in a village near Hereford.

John Collins has asked Herefordshire Council for permission to develop the land off the Hollands in Much Dewchurch.

The 2.2-acre site is bound by the B4348 road to the north, from which vehicles will access the new estate.

Consultants working on the scheme say the site is surrounded by residential development on two sides and is located within the village.

Planning permission was granted to build nine homes on the site in 2020.

However, these plans were for six two-storey homes and three bungalows. The new proposals are for five three-bedrooom and five two-bedroom bungalows.

“The scheme is for the delivery of bungalows only, responding to an identified need in the county,” the planning statement reads.

“It is also relevant that bungalows are in short supply, often because they are ‘land hungry’ owing to their larger footprint, which in turn reduces land values.

“Thus, the delivery of seven additional bungalows here is a planning benefit compared with the fall-back position.

“In terms of dwelling design, the buildings are all truly bungalows in design having a single storey only and limited roof space for storage,” the planning statement reads.

“The buildings also benefit from simple building profiles with traditional roof pitches. This is complemented using traditional building materials with facing rural blend brick to the elevations under a tile roof.”

Local residents have until April 17 to comment on the proposals. which council planners are expected to consider by May 20.
