What a joy to read Mr Adams’ letter about Greenways!
He is absolutely right that disused railway lines offer a wonderful opportunity to deliver a green transport network throughout Herefordshire and the Marches.
To summarise the benefits: Improvements to physical and mental well-being; active travel opportunities to school and work; Reducing accidents; Reducing CO2; Huge economic benefits from tourism. Sustrans, the cycling charity, estimate annual benefits to the 40 km Greenway from Worcester to Leominster of £1.5m pa.
RELATED NEWS:
In Herefordshire and the Marches there are separate groups promoting these Greenways: Worcester Bromyard Leominster; Golden Valley; Hereford – Hay-on-Wye; Hay-on-Wye to Brecon.
There is also interest in the Leominster to Kington Greenway. Let us hope that these groups all receive the necessary support from central and local government.
