I agree with river clearance, and regular maintenance.
As a I kid used to watch the rivers being dredged and cleared.
Local ditches were all cleared and free. Any local farm worker could explain how his area water ran off into said rivers.
None of that appears to be done any more, and hasn't been for many years.
The bank clearing at the river Lugg by Kingsland was exemplary.
The eco brigade could well try and find an old Hereford farm worker and find out how to correctly husband the land, instead of finding fault with someone actually doing something constructive for once.
