THE NHS has revealed more than 7,000 people in Herefordshire have been given their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine over the last week.

NHS England figures revealed the number of people in Herefordshire's 23 middle super output areas who had had at least one dose.

These areas have an average population of 8,000, and across the county more than 70,000 people have now had at least one dose. The figures cover up to February 28.

Overall in Herefordshire, 71,195 first doses have been given. A second dose of the vaccine is given 12 weeks after the first.

Vaccines in Herefordshire are given in the order of the Government's priority list, with most at five centres run by GP surgeries. There is also a mass site at Elgar House in Holmer Road, Hereford.

While the NHS doesn't provide information for the number of people in the area, the Office for National Statistics does provide an estimate from mid-2019.
