A WOMAN was caught drink-driving after mounting the pavement while trying to park in the early hours of the morning, a court has heard.

Laura Jayne Hendry admitted drink-driving when she appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

Prosecutor Ralph Robyns Landricombe said police had been on patrol in Wilton Road, Ross-on-Wye, at 3.15am on January 21 when they saw a green Suzuki Vitara being parked on Wye Street.

"The car mounted the pavement with both wheels and jolted," Mr Robyns Landricombe said.

Police spoke to driver Hendry, who admitted she had been drinking, and she was arrested after failing a roadside breath test.

An evidential test in custody revealed she had 45 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Marilena Di Vitantonio, for Hendry, said the 42-year-old had been under a considerable amount of stress recently.

"That evening she had some alcohol and went to sleep, but woke up due to the stress. She decided to go for a drive to clear her head and was found about five miles from her home.

"She said she would never have got in her car if she felt there would have been an issue."

Hendry, of Hoarwithy, Herefordshire, was disqualified from driving for 14 months and fined £80. She must also pay costs of £135 and a £34 victim surcharge.
