A FLOOD alert has been placed on the River Lugg.

The Environment Agency has placed the alert on the river south of Leominster stating 'flooding is possible - be prepared'.

River levels have risen at the Lugwardine river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

OTHER NEWS:

"Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected to continue," state the Environment Agency.

"We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the River Lugg south of Leominster from Stoke Prior to Mordiford."

With further rain forecast in the next 48 hours the Environment Agency expect river levels to remain high over the coming days.

Other areas which they have warned might be affected by flooding include Bodenham, Lugwardine and Hampton Bishop.

"We are closely monitoring the situation," added the Environment Agency.

"Our incident response staff are checking defences and clearing weed screens.

"Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."
