MORE than 10 people were admitted to hospital in Herefordshire last week and diagnosed with coronavirus, latest NHS figures show.

In weekly data released by NHS England, the overall number of coronavirus patients being treated at the Wye Valley Trust in Herefordshire had fallen.

It means the number of coronavirus patients has been falling for four weeks.

In January, the number of patients being treated for coronavirus at the Wye Valley NHS Trust peaked at 117 on January 19 – the most ever on one day.

But as of 8am on Tuesday (February 16), four weeks after the peak, the number of patients had fallen to 25, according to NHS England figures published on Thursday.

It means the number of patients being cared for had fallen by seven from 32 over the week. During those seven days, the number of patients had peaked at 35 on February 10 and been as low as 23 on February 15.

The number of patients on February 15 was the lowest number that had been at the trust, which runs Hereford County Hospital, the lowest number of patients at the trust, which runs Hereford County Hospital, since December 7.

The number of people on mechanical ventilators, used for the most seriously ill coronavirus patients, had stayed the same over the week to Tuesday.

On Tuesday, four patients were on mechanical ventilators, the same number as on February 2. During the week, however, it had fallen to three before rising back to four.

In the seven-days to February 14, 14 Covid-19 patients were admitted and diagnosed with coronavirus at the Wye Valley NHS Trust.

That compares to 13 the previous week.
