THERE are plans to create a new camping site near Ross-on-Wye.

Richard and Jane Barradale-Smith have asked Herefordshire Council for permission to change the use of a paddock and part of the domestic curtilage of Ferry Cottage at Huntsham Bridge near Goodrich.

The proposed new campsite would be called Huntsham Bridge Camping and includes 15 pitches for tents and small camper vans with their own toilet facilities.

The plans say no chemical toilets would be allowed on the site.

Consultants working on the scheme say the number of pitches is low when compared to the overall size of the size.

“This is to encourage sensible use of the site by responsible campers.

“The owners propose to restrict the use of the site to couples, small family groups and for officially run youth groups.”

The camping site would be closed between late summer and Easter, the period when any flooding normally occurs.

People have until March 11 to comment on the proposals which county planners are expected to consider by March 17.
