BULMERS, Sun Valley and Wiggins are factories renowned for their presence in Hereford, but they weren’t the only ones to leave a lasting impression in people’s minds.

In the We Grew Up In Hereford group this week there have been found memories shared of open days at Peak Engineering.

Phil Smith, who shared the picture above in the Facebook group with almost 9,000 members, guessed the picture would have been taken in 1992.

He said the car parts factory employed 180 people in Hereford.

“Always a great social scene, and lovely children’s Christmas party,” Mr Smith said.

“Olive Evans was social secretary and did a great job. People will remember Olive from other places she worked at in Hereford and gave her time towards.

“There was a fleet of Saab, Land Rover, Toyota, and Ford motor cars on this day, all brand new on display to show the range of parts made in the factory for the automotive industry.”

The firm was then bought by Triplex Components Machining, but the Hereford factory closed in 2009.

Recalling the day, Janet Brimfield said: “I was there with my dad on that day, with Bay Horse Motors. We supplied the Saabs on show.

“It was a good day and I remember we were made to feel really welcome. Those were the days.”

Connie Hall said: “My hubby worked there. John Hall and son Lea Hall use to go to the open days.

“Our children used to go to the parties and the outing they put on for Christmas. My hubby went there from Aeroparts and worked there until it closed.”
