HEREFORDSHIRE currently has six coronavirus vaccination centres giving jabs to those who are eligible.

Three of these are in Hereford, with others in the surrounding county towns.

We have compiled the list of sites from the NHS website and other official sources.

But the NHS is reminding people they should not contact any site to book a Covid-19 vaccination, as the health service will contact everyone individually when it's their turn for a jab.

The government is aiming is to vaccinate 15 million people in the top four priority groups – care home residents and workers, NHS frontline staff, over-70s and the extremely clinically vulnerable – by mid-February.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines are being administered at hospitals, care homes, GP surgeries and other vaccination centres, including a sports hall and community centres.

Herefordshire's five primary care networks, which are groups of GP surgeries, and each have a vaccination centre. They are:

  • Saxon Hall, Hoarwithy Road, Hereford, for patients at Wargrave House Surgery, Belmont Medical Practice and Cantilupe Surgery
  • Quay House Surgery, Westfaling Street, Hereford, for patients at Hereford Medical Group
  • Larruperz Centre, Grammar School Close, Ross-on-Wye, for patients at Alton Street Surgery, Pendeen Surgery, Fownhope Surgery, Kingstone Surgery, Golden Valley Practice and Much Birch Surgery
  • Ledbury Community Hall, Lawnside Road, Ledbury, for patients at Market Street Surgery, St Katherines Surgery, Nunwell Surgery, Colwall Surgery and Cradley Surgery
  • Bridge Street Sports Centre, Bridge Street, Leominster, for patients at Kington Medical Practice, Mortimer Medical Practice, The Marches Surgery, Weobley Surgery and Westfield Surgery

There is also a vaccination centre at Hereford County Hospital for health and social care workers in the county.

The Hereford Times also understands there are plans to open a further site at Elgar House, but this is also likely to be for health and social care workers in the county.

GPs are also going into care homes with vaccines, and a mass site in Malvern is also set to open to serve some Herefordshire residents.

While a date for the opening of the site at the Three Counties Showground has not been confirmed, it is expected to "come online" by the end of January.

Giving an update on the vaccinations, managing director of Herefordshire and Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group Jo-anne Alner said: “We are looking at additional sites, these won’t be primary care led, but they will be vaccination sites people can drive to and there will be increased capacity for vaccinations as well there.

“But it’s important that we have to have this signed off by the national teams, so we’re expecting that to come online at the end of month, so our capacity is going to increase, the number of vaccines we are going to be able to deliver and have access to is increasing, and we know that we’ve learnt from December.

“It’s been like a test month really, we’ve learnt a lot really, us and the team are speeding up a lot and doing it a lot quicker than they thought in the first couple of weeks.”
