MORE care home residents in Herefordshire have died with coronavirus, the latest official figures show.

Office for National Statistics data shows 28 people have died and had coronavirus mentioned on their death certificate over the past three weeks.

The ONS data shows across the county 185 deaths involving Covid-19 were registered in Herefordshire up to January 9.

Three weeks previous to this, the death toll stood at 157.

Some 101 deaths have happened at hospital, 25 more than were registered up to December 19, and 84 elsewhere.

That includes the 74 in care homes and six at private homes. Four deaths were in hospices.

The figures, published weekly, are based on where Covid-19 is mentioned anywhere on the death certificate. It does not give a location more specific than Herefordshire.

The data includes deaths up to January 1, but registered up to eight days later.

Public Health England figures show that 4,600 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Monday (January 11) in Herefordshire, up from 4,316 the same time on Friday.

It means 721 cases have been confirmed in the last seven days.
