TRIBUTE has been paid to a popular member of a Hereford church community who never lost her lively sense of humour.

Dorothy Harries, who died aged 86 on December 21, moved to Hereford in 1964 from her home town of Neath with husband, Roy, who had secured a managerial position in the wire mill at Henry Special Metals Wiggin.

Dorothy was excited to secure the post of biology lab assistant in the newly established Sixth Form College in 1973 under the headship of Dr Barnes. This was the role she enjoyed for over 20 years, making lifelong friends along the way and enjoying hearing how students were getting on with their lives when she bumped into them in town.

A member of St Paul’s Church, Tupsley for fifty years, Dorothy was an enthusiastic member of the pastoral team. She loved serving at the weekly coffee mornings, even when she became older than a lot of the customers. The church hall was the venue for one of her big passions, Scottish Dancing. She thrived on learning and demonstrating new dances and helping to organize the seasonal balls with other market town groups. She handed over the Treasurer reins in 2019.

She was a competitive grass bowls player for Bodenham and enjoyed day-trips with Roy to watch national championships.

Many friends will have enjoyed lunches and shopping expeditions with Dorothy and she was never happier than when changing outfits three times a day to head out again. She never lost her Welsh lilt or lively sense of humour and will be much missed by her children Paul, Ian and Julie.
