FIREFIGHTERS from across Herefordshire spent the early hours of Christmas Day battling a blaze at a petrol station.

Crews from across the county were called to the Budgens shop and petrol station on the A40 at Whitchurch, near Ross-on-Wye late last night, where they worked to stop the fire spreading to highly flammable fuel tanks and pumps.

Station commander Phil Major said the fire was brought under control in the early hours of this morning (December 25).

"Great actions from the initial crews to get in and stop the fire spreading to the fuel tanks. Brave and decisive actions."

A spokesperson for Whitchurch Fire Station said: "Another busy evening yesterday for our crew at a fuel station fire. Rapid actions reduced damage and fuel tanks not effected. Assisted by various other stations and commanders."
