PEOPLE were told to keep their windows and doors closed as smoke from a fire at an industrial building filled the air.

Firefighters from Herefordshire were among those called to the blaze at the Stowfield Business Park, Lydbrook, on the Herefordshire-Gloucestershire border just across the Wye from Welsh Bicknor.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service assured people living nearby that the smoke was nothing to worry about, but advised closing their doors and windows.

BREAKING NEWS:

A spokesman said the incident had been dealt with, but one or two fire engines might remain there into the night to ensure there were no "hot spots".

They thanked crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service for their help with the call-out.

Teams from Peterchurch, Whitchurch and Ross-on-Wye were among those who worked with their colleagues in Gloucestershire.

Firefighters used a water jet from an aerial platform to tackle the flames.

Pictures showed large parts of the building's roof had been destroyed.

It is not known at this point how the fire started.
