CORONAVIRUS has presented so many challenges to people across Powys this year, but the issues faced haven’t dampened the spirits of schoolchildren in Llanbister.

They’ve devised a creative and enjoyable competition where they took photographs themed around local Radnorshire wildlife and turned it into a fundraising calendar for Llanbister Community Primary School.

A spokesperson for the school said: “The pandemic has meant that fundraising for our school has become more difficult, however we weren't going to let this stop us and so our 2021 calendar competition was born.

“We wondered what could we do to engage the children and community in the midst of the pandemic when we were unable to all get together. So, we challenged them to take photographs around the theme ‘all creatures great and small’ and asked them to submit their efforts to be judged, with the top 12 pictures appearing in the final calendar.”

Ruth Rees Photography agreed to judge and had over 130 pictures to choose from. The overall winner was Olwen Wilson and pictured are some of the other final 12 photographers with the finished calendar. The calendar can be purchased by emailing friends@llanbister.powys.sch.uk or by contacting Menna Bennett on 01597 840601.

The friends of the school would like to thank sponsors Haydn Lewis Financial Services Ltd and Gamic Trailers Ltd for their support and Powerprint for designing and printing.
