HUNDREDS of new coronavirus deaths have been reported at hospitals in England, the latest NHS England figures show.

There were no new deaths recorded at Wye Valley NHS Trust today (November 17) where the total number of those who have died after testing positive for coronavirus stands at 70, with the most recent death having taken place on November 9.

A total of 330 new deaths were announced at hospitals in England today.

Of those, 29 occurred in the east of England, 24 in London, 86 in the midlands, 63 in the north east and Yorkshire, 87 in the north west, 22 in the south east, and 19 in the south west.

The new deaths bring the total hospital coronavirus death toll in England to 36,842, with 7,380 of those recorded in the midlands.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.
