A SCHOOL for pupils with special educational needs in Hereford is closing for two weeks following a confirmed case of coronavirus.

Headteacher Mike Painter sent a letter to parents of pupils at Blackmarston School yesterday stating the school would be closed from today (November 13) and will re-open on Monday, November 30.

"We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a further confirmed case of Covid-19 within school and following discussion with Public Health England, Herefordshire County Council and the Chair of Governors, the school will now close," he said.

"We have followed the national guidance at all times and feel this is an appropriate response to reduce the risk of

further infections at the school and keep pupils, families and staff safe.

"We recognise that this decision will be a shock to many of you, but we believe it is the right one.

The headteacher added that staff would start a deep clean of the school building from Monday (November 16) and will also start remote learning for pupils then too, with exercises sent home for classes through the post and supported with online activities and with weekly contact from staff to support this.

"This will allow us to plan for the re-opening of the school on Monday, November 30, but we will provide further information on this closer to the time.

"Those pupils who have been identified as having been in close contact with affected individuals have been contacted via a separate letter and advised to stay at home and self-isolate for a defined period of time, after

which, they will be able to leave their home and garden again.

"This period will represent 14 days since their last contact with the person affected."
