HEREFORD'S Christmas lights have been switched on for 2020, but without the usual fanfare and crowds in High Town.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic the switch on event in High Town did not go ahead, but a virtual event has been held instead.
Mayor of Hereford Councillor Kath Hey was joined by Junior Mayor Theo Ashton and Sunshine Radio's Mark Edwards.
A spokesperson for Hereford City Council said it would bring some "much-needed and well-deserved" Christmas cheer.
"Because of operational issues this year, the switch on has been slightly different to normal," they added.
"Due to social distancing guidelines we sadly cannot have our usual Christmas event, but we hope that this video presentation of the switch on brings fond memories of last Christmas and plenty of optimism for next year.
"We hope all our residents in Hereford and beyond have a holly, jolly and safe Christmas this year, and we'll be keeping you updated on the situation of late-night shopping as soon as further information is available. Until then, enjoy the Christmas sparkle."
In previous years artists such as Blue's Lee Ryan and former X-Factor contestant Lucy Spraggan have performed to big crowds in High Town.
