NHS England figures show 64 people had died in hospital at Wye Valley NHS Trust as of 4pm on Thursday (October 29).

That was an increase of four compared to the 60 that had been recorded at the same point on Wednesday. It means five deaths reported this week.

Two of the deaths reported today (Friday) happened on October 28, with one of October 26 and another on Octover 27.

The victims were among 6,429 deaths recorded across the midlands, up 26 from the previous day.

CORONAVIRUS LATEST:

The midlands remains the second-worst affected of England's seven NHS regions after London.

The death toll across hospitals in England now stands at 32,647, with 163 reported in Friday's figures.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.
