TONIGHT'S Hereford Times Health and Social Care Awards 2020 honour some of Herefordshire's most inspiring unsung heroes.

In this, the year of coronavirus, their dedication has been phenomenal, which brings heightened emotion to what is always an inspiring evening.

Where is it being held?

Social distancing regulations mean that for the first time this year the event is being held digitally.

You can watch a video of the show on the Hereford Times Facebook page from 7pm tonight (Thursday, October 22).

There are more details of how to watch, and join in the fun, here.

Who will be appearing

The awards show will be hosted by Good Morning Britain star Dr Hilary Jones.

He will be joined by several celebrity guests, including television presenter Ben Fogle and Coronation Street actor Simon Gregson.

But the real stars will, of course, be our award finalists – ordinary people who have made an extraordinary contribution this year, caring for us and our loved ones at the most vulnerable points in our lives.

What are the categories?

In total 13 awards will be presented to recognise the dedication and professionalism of local health and social work staff and volunteers – either as individuals or teams.

The award categories are Health Care Team, Care Hero, Care Home Worker, Domiciliary Home Worker, Good Nurse, Care Trainer, Child and Adolescent Health, Dementia Carer, Palliative/End of Life, Mental Health, Health Care Employer, GP Practice of the Year.

Have these awards be held before?

Yes. This is the third year that the event has been held, and it grows in popularity every time.

A black-tie dinner is usually arranged, but social distancing measures mean that has not been possible this year. You can see pictures from our 2019 event here.
